As the son of an orthopedic nurse and chiropractor / Tai Chi teacher, I was raised with a holistic perspective on health and respect for the human body. Martial arts influenced my initial career in motion capture animation, only a way to fantastical visual FX but also a way to make stunt work safer. It boiled down to an intensive 12 years practice in complex Gait analysis and production. Several years ago in LA, my wife had a stroke that changed our lives. I worked with her and her therapists to recover from hemiparesis. We moved back to Boston and the environment demanded change. In June of 2020, hospitals reopened for elective surgery so she got her foot and Achilles Tendon worked on. The swelling and spasticity were intolerable after the cast came off. She allowed me to injury massage her foot and leg eventually. The swelling disappeared; range of motion improved; and she was spasm free for the night. After meeting with her physical therapist, we found that I had been doing all of the same techniques that he would have plus a few. That was my catalyst for becoming a massage therapist. Bringing that kind of relief to people called to me.
